Abstract (EN)

Important time periods have emerged with the transition to the republican regime in Turkey. The period from 1923 to 1950 is known as the "Single Party" period, and the period from 1950 to 1960 is known as the "Democratic Party" period. Apart from these time periods, the period from 1960 to 1980 is important. In the twenty years generally referred to as the "period between two coups", democratic steps such as referendums as well as general and local elections were taken in Turkey. There have been changes in election systems and constitutional developments. In addition, a permanent multi-party period was experienced. More parties and candidates had the opportunity to compete in both general and local elections. While all of these are implemented under the guarantee of a constitution, technological progress, especially in communication tools, has supported these democratic steps. In this study, the mentioned twenty-year period was examined specifically in Çankırı province. In this study, which touches on political developments, the focus is on general and local election processes and results. In the study, the promises of the candidates and their parties, those who were elected, the expectations of the voters and the development of the city were traced. T.R. Documents obtained from state archives, archives of local newspapers, personal letters and many other copyrighted works constitute the source of the study. In the study, findings were found that Çankırı voters generally preferred to vote in the same direction, that right-wing parties gained more support, and that candidates were taken into consideration by the voters as much as the parties
