Second home owners' destination life quality criteria and analysis : The case of Alanya

The aim of this study is to find out Alanya?s, which hosts the biggest number of expats in Turkey, destination quality from the eye of second home owners who live in this region. A questionnaire was designed in order to collect data. Firstly the questionnaire was pilot practiced then according to results some statements were deleted. Main practice was carried out between the dates of February-June 2013 and 386 valid questionnaire was collected. In the questionnaire under three main groups which are socio-cultural, economic and environmental, 37 statements such as infrastucture, traffic system, social activities, healthcare, city atmosphere, safety and security, human relations, climate, natural beauties and cost of living were asked to participants. Beside that, second home owners? level of being happy in Alanya and level of recommendation of living in or visiting Alanya to others were also tried to find out. According to results, it was seen that second home owners are quite happy to live in Alanya. Furthermore the level of recommendation of Alanya to others were also high. Climate and natural beauties have the highest rank that second home owners love the most in Alanya. In addition, bureaucracy, fair price for locals and expats and traffic system have the lowest rank. For the future, to protect the natural and the cultural values and to pay attention to second home owners? opinions and suggestions would help to increase the quality of Alanya destination. To find out Alanya?s strengths and weaknesses will help decision makers to plan and to increase the quality of destination?s life. By protecting the sources of Alanya and resolve the needed things will help to rise people?s quality of life up who live in Alanya destination.
