Abstract (EN)
Aim: In our study we aimed to evaluate the oxidative metabolism?s status in bipolar disorder. Method: Blood samples were taken from enrolled subjects in appropriate way and Total Antioxidant Status (TAS), Total Oxidant Status (TOS) and Oxidative Stres Index (OSI) were studied in Harran University Biochemistry Laboratory. Results: The patients? TAS, TOS and OSI were significantly higher than controls. TAS is negatively correlated with the number of previous total attacks in bipolar I patients. Discussion: In bipolar disorder, oxidative balance is impared. High antioxidant levels may have a compensatory increase against oxidant increase. Keywords: Bipolar disorder, Oxidative stres, Total antioxidant status, Total Oxidant status
