Abstract (EN)
Climate change creates important problems affecting cities. These problems include increasing frequency and severity of extreme weather events, rising sea levels and temperature changes. These changes threaten the flora and fauna balance of the region and affect the socio-economic structure. To cope with these problems, cities adopt resilience strategies and policies that adapt to the change of environmental conditions. In addition, environmental measures such as energy efficient landscapes and sustainable designs are also adopted to combat climate change in cities. The use of renewable energy sources is an important step to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Cities are also trying to reduce the risks associated with climate change, such as water management, flood control and protection of water resources, by developing green infrastructure systems. The study examines the current and possible effects of climate change in the Mudanya district of Bursa, a coastal city in the Marmara region. Mudanya is faced with various risks such as coastal erosion, floods and heat waves, and these risks threaten the socio-economic fabric, infrastructure and natural ecosystems of the region. This underlines the need for resilience measures. The suggestions presented for Mudanya within the scope of the thesis cover a multidimensional approach that includes primarily ecological and environmental aspects, as well as social and economic aspects. The aim is to increase the city's ability to resist, recover and adapt to climate-related shocks and stresses. The social dimension emphasizes community participation to enable community members to take an active role in resilience building efforts. The environmental dimension emphasizes the importance of protecting and restoring natural ecosystems such as wetlands and forests, promoting environmentally friendly practices, increasing biodiversity and providing resilience benefits. Considering the importance of flora and natural ecosystems in increasing urban resilience, this thesis mentions the importance of protecting natural vegetation areas, integrating suitable plant species and native plants in cultural plantations to strengthen the ability to adapt to climate-related shocks and stresses. By supporting the use of native plant species and the implementation of green infrastructure solutions, he explains that the use of these species plays a major role in the protection and restoration of natural ecosystems, improving the ecological health of the region, and also contributing to the resilience of the city.
