Age and gender differences in prospective memory performance and frontal region test scores

AGE AND GENDER DIFFERENCES IN PROSPECTIVE MEMORY PERFORMANCE AND FRONTAL REGION TEST SCORES The aim of the present study is to examine, age and gender effect on prospective memory performance and the frontal region test scores. Another aim of the study is to examine, the relationship between frontal region test and prospective memory task scores. For this purpose, clinical diagnostic scales, neuropsychological tests (Stroop Test, Wisconsin Card Sorting Test, Trail Making Test, Controlled Oral Word Association Test) and prospective memory tasks (time based-event based) were applied to a total of 180 voluntary participants. Participants were from two levels of sex (male, female) and three levels of age (20-44, 45-59, 60 and above). The level of education was balanced in all groups (9-11 and 12 and above) to prevent possible confounding effect. A 3X2 two-way analysis of variance was applied to the scores that were obtained from the each test and subtests. The results show a significant effect of age on prospective memory task and frontal region test scores. There is also a significant effect of gender, only on the scores were obtained from the Stroop Test and the Trail Making Test. İn addition, there is a significant interaction effect of age and gender only on Trail Making Test scores. The results also demostrated that, there is a significant relationship between prospective memory task and frontal region test scores.
