Abstract (EN)

This study aims to determine the effect of elementary-level violin education based on playing with accompaniment compared to violin education based on playing without accompaniment upon intonation, self-confidence, and attitude. The study subjects consisted of 30 students enrolled in the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades at Hatice Fahriye Eginlioglu Primary School in Balikesir during the academic year 2008-2009.In the study, the researcher used the pre-test/post-test control group experimental design. The experiment group (n=15) received violin education based on playing with accompaniment, while the control group (n=15) was given violin education based on playing without accompaniment. The study employed the following data collection instruments: ?Musical Audition Skill Assessment Form?, ?Observation Form about Physical Competence for Playing the Violin?, ?Personal Information Form?, ?Intonation Assessment Form? ?the Piers-Harris Self-Concept Scale? and ?the Attitude Scale toward Violin Course?.The findings of the study demonstrate that the effect of elementary-level violin education based on playing with accompaniment upon intonation, self-confidence, and attitude significantly differed from that of violin education based on playing without accompaniment.
