The Problems encountered during the physics experiments are being done in elementary science education

Ill ABSTRACT In Turkey, as in the other countries a lot of studies were done and are stil being done in both education curriculum and providing tecnological equipments in order to make the education more efficient. Especially as the arrangements in our elementary education is the main level of all other education levels, it has a great importance. To make a students think systematically, to awake their research and exemine wonder, to improve their analysis and synthesis ability, to increase their creativity are among the main aims of education. After these aims are achieved, Turkish society will grow and be more powerfull. To do this, science education is important. For an effective science education; curricula which are developed with enough equipment, suitable strategies and methods have been carried out. In this research, it has been tried to establish how science curriculum is applied. Research's subject is "The Problems Encountered During The Physics Experiments Are Being Done In Elementary Science Education". The aims is to ascertain in which level physics experiment are done and to establish the problems that occur during the experiments. This research has been done by taking the opinions of 44 teachers and 337 students of science lessons in the elemantary schools in the centre of Kırşehir province during 2002-2003 Education year. The datas obtained by data collecting tools have been analysed by using frequence (f), percent (%), mean (X) and Chi-Square Test (X2), suitable for the aims. The analysis are interpreted using SPSS program. (Statistical Packel for Social Sciences).IV In the research, it has been examined that teachers and students do most experiments related to physics subjects in science lessons. But it has also been observed that nearly half of these physics experiments have not been able to done. It has been observed that the duration of lesson being less the most important problem of the physics experiments. Furthermore insufficience of the physical appearance of the labs, less, limited and broken experimental materials have been observed as very important problems. Because of these problems, it has been seen that demonstrative method is often used in science lessons.
