Abstract (EN)

In this research, the relationship between emotional intelligence andsatisfaction with life levels of students who goes on to 6., 7.and 8. grades in Izmircenter was investigated.This research is a descriptive study that investigates the relationshipbetween emotional intelligence and satisfaction with life levels of students who goes6., 7., 8. grades according to various sociodemographic variables.The survey was conducted with the students attending to public schools` 6.7. and 8. grades among 9 primary schools during 2008-2009 education period inIzmir. The sample was consisted of 293 students (151 girls, 142 boys) who were 12-14 years old. The participants were randomly chosen students from primary schools.The data was collected by Emotional Intelligence Scale (EQ-NED) whichwas developed by Dr. Demirali Y. Ergin, Dr. Esra ?smen, Dr. Nilüfer Özabacı andSatisfaction With Life Levels Scale which was developed by Diener, Emmans,Lorsen, Giffin with a questionnaire which was developed by the researcher todetermine the sociodemographic variables of the sample.Considering the findings of the research, a positive correlation was foundbetween life satisfaction and emotional intelligence levels. There is a significantdifference between overall emotional intelligence levels, according to gender andparents attitude variable. According to age, education levels of parents and nurseryeducation variable, there is no significant difference between overall emotionalintelligence and life satisfaction levels.Keywords: Emotional Quotient, Satisfaction With Life Level, Elementary School
