Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research is to the level of Primary School students?achievement motivation; their perceptions of parent expectation; the relationshipwithin these variables and the relationship these variables and students? sex. Bydetermining the level of the achievement motivation, it?s aimed to help teachers toknow about their students well; to improve students? achievement by findingsolutions to their problems. Also, it?s indicated that bringing up the effect of parentexpectations on students? achievement motivation will help the parents to recognizetheir importance in their child?s education; to decide on more realistic expectationsabout their child?s education. Lastly, this research will be helpful in thecommunication between parents and teachers about their students? education.In this descriptive research, 6 Primary State Schools were chosen randomlyfrom different socio economic areas in zmir. The participants were 828 ( 417female, 411 male) 7th and 8th grade volunteer students. Achievement MotivationScale and Parent Expectation Scale were applied to the students.The result of the research indicate that the achievement motivation level ofthe Primary school students is moderate; female students have higher achievementmotivation level than male students; there is not a significant difference betweenmale students? perceptions and female students? perceptions about parentexpectations; and there is a significant difference between parents expectations andstudents? achievement motivation. Parent expectations effect students? achievementmotivation positively. Considering the research findings, it is suggested that parentsshould be trained to develop more realistic expectations about their child?s education.Also, in order to effect students? achievement motivation positively; parents, teachersand school administrators should communicate continually, and parents?participation in schooling should be increased.
