An analysis of the relationship between democratic behaviors of directors and organizational commitment levels of the teachers in primary schools: The case of Zeytinburnu

The aim of this research is to project the existence of relationship between democratic behaviors of directors and organizational commitment levels of teachers in primary schools. Therefore it is aimed to determine whether there is any difference in democratic behaviors of directors and the level of organizational commitment level of teachers due to gender, professionals and education levels.Scales were applied to a predetermined sample group of 544 teachers in the second term of 2009-2010 educational year. There were three sections in the survey. The first section included Personal Information Form; Organizational Commitment Questionnaire which was developed by Refik BALAYwas in the second section; and in the third section there was İsmail ZENCİRCİ?s Democratic Tendencies Scale.The results have been analyzed at a .05 significance level prescribed in the SPSS for Windows 13.0 program and the results have been provided in schemas in accordance with the purposes of the research.As for findings; a significant relation was found between democratic behaviors of directors and organizational commitment levels of teachers in primary schools. According to the results, as the democratic behavior score of directors perceived by teachers increases, the level of organizational commitment of teachers increases accordingly.In other words, it is evident that democratic behaviors of directors stimulate the organizational commitment levels of teachers.
