The relationship between organizational silence and organizational commitment in primary schools

Abstract (EN)

Organizational silence is the employees to restrain sharing their feelings and information about the enhancement of where they work. Even though the silence by the employees used to be considered a harmony amongst them, today, this is considered as a conscious and willing reaction and restraining the ideas. Employees believe that expressing their ideas within the organization will change nothing and telling about their problems is dangerous. They restrain sharing their feelings and ideas because they think they would be considered as trouble maker, complaintive and fractious. This situation causes to the corporation to loose new opportunities and reasons problems and stress in the coporration and commitment level of the employees to be effected negatively. Silence by the employees can bring negative results for the corporation. For the emplyees? performances to be high level, they should express their problems easily and shouldn?t receive any negative feedback from the directors. In case employees receive negative feedback from the directors, employees? commitment level with the corporation can decrease. This case brings a serious obstacle for the corporation?s innovation attempt.In this research, depending on the opinions of the teachers and directors of primary schools, it is purposed to define the level of Organizational Silence and Organizational Commitment, and also to expose the way of relationship between Organizational Silence and Organizational Commitment.Universe of the reseaarch is constituted by all the primary schools in Elazig city.And the sample is constituted by 20 primary schools 10 of which are from 5 education district in Elazig and two primary schools from each, and the other 10 of which are from each towns of the city.Within the sample group, ?Scale of Organizational Silence? and ?Scale of Organizational Commitment? have been applied and the following results are received within the analyses:According to the results of the research, Organizational Silence perception of participants is high level and Organizational Commitment perception of participants is middle level.This result shows that primary school teachers and directors can not easily express their own and generally choose remaining silent.Besides, primary school teachers and directors are commited with their schools in a middle level.The following results are received from the observation of relationship between the factors that create the Organizational Silence and the factors that create the Organizational Commitment:There is a negative and meaningless relationship between the Director, Teacher and Environment Factors of Organizational Silence and Continuation Commitment Factor of Organizational Commitment.According to this result, as a result of increase of Organizational Silence, the continuation commitment of directors and employees is expected to decrease.There is a positive relationship between the Emotinal Commitment Factor of Organizational Commitment and the Director, Teacher and Environment Factors of Organizational Silence.The more employees keep the silent attitude, the more emotional commitment perception according to the employees organization is expected.Besides, there is a positive relationship between the Normative Commitment Factor of Organizational Commitment and and the Director, Teacher and Environment Factors of Organizational Silence.Because the emplyees see themselves obliged to their organizations, the ignore the problems of organization and do not mention about them.
