Neccessity of demonstrating leaderhip for elementary school teachers and their views relating to the level of demonstrating leadership

This study aims to determine the necessity of demonstrating leadership forelementary school teachers and their views relating to the level of demonstratingleadership. Below are the traits under assessment: Institutional development,occupational development and cooperation with colleagues. The research wasconducted on 356 teachers serving in elementary schools in 8 of central districts ofAnkara during the 2010-2011 educational years. Teachers? Leadership Criteria,developed by Beycioğlu and Aslan (2010), has been utilized as the data collectioninstrument. In analyzing the data, t test and one-way variance analysis tests have beenused. The research concluded that, for all traits assessed, elementary school teachers?views concerning the necessity of demonstrating leadership are more positive incomparison to their views concerning the level of demonstrating leadership. In terms ofinstitutional development and cooperation with colleagues, elementary school teachers?views relating to the necessity of demonstrating leadership have indicated a meaningfuldifference in relation to the branch variable. In terms of cooperation with colleagues, itindicated a meaningful difference in relation to seniority variable. Elementary schoolteachers? views relating to the level of demonstrating leadership have, in all traits,demonstrated a meaningful difference in relation to the seniority variable. In any of theassessed traits, no significant relation has been found between the gender variable andthe necessity of demonstrating leadership and views relating to the level ofdemonstrating leadership.
