The position of folk culture in the program of primary education social studies: The views of primary education students towards folk culture approach

The objective of present research is to examine the topics in folk culture that is an optional course in second grade primary education, the ways to associate these topics with social studies program and to determine if there is a meaningful difference amidst the views of primary education students towards folk culture approach.The data of the research conducted via descriptive method have been obtained through the survey method developed by researcher. The research has been conducted in two stages entitled as pilot and real practice. Pilot practice was conducted amongst 100 students receiving training in Maltepe Primary Education School in district of Çankaya, Ankara. Real practice on the other hand was executed amidst 600 students trained in Anıttepe Primary Education School and Çankaya Primary Education School within district of Çankaya, Hacı Mustafa Tarman Primary Education School in district of Keçiören, Şair Nedim Primary Education School, Ergenekon Primary Education School and Oğuz Kağan Primary Education School in district of Mamak, province of Ankara. In the analysis of obtained data, frequency (f), percentage (%), arithmetic mean ( ) calculations have been performed by using SPSS 18 (Statistical Package for Social Sciences), t-test and one-way variance analysis have been conducted to determine if there is a difference amidst variables.At the end of research it has been found that with respect to variables such as gender, holiday location and academic success in Turkish course, the views of primary education second grade students towards folk culture approach demonstrated meaningful differences.Following the literature study and survey practice, conclusions and suggestions on folk culture approach have been rendered.
