Research of 4th grade primary school students' watching television habits

This research is made for determination of 4th grade primary school student's watching TV habits. This study was made in academic year of 2016-2017 among the central primary schools which are located in Erzincan. This research was made with qualitative research method and benefited from case study design. As data collecting device, semi-structured interview form "Determnation of Primary School Students' television Usage Habit" which is improved by resarcher was used. Datas were transfered to the computer and Nvivo program was used when analysing getting ready datas. According to the findings of the research, although the programs they follow differed according to their types, the reasons for watching television were similar in general and they were observed to be mostly instructive, to eliminate the boredom and to fill in leisure time. As a result of research, it is interfered that students are watching intensively television series and its reason is generally their families' effect. Many of students think that television series and cartoons are realistic and it is seen from their different expressions that they are affected by scenes and characters within the programs. Moreover, it is also determined that most of the students are conscious about benefits, harms and importance of watching television however they do not perform it in their daily lives.
