Abstract (EN)
This research has been held to identifythe 4th grade students' misconceptions about direction, 301 students and their teachers (12 teachers) among 14 chosen official primary schools in Birecik Province, Şanlıurfa. In the research, to determine the success of students in finding their directions concept and misconceptions, a 20 questioned, success test has beenapplied. In the data gathered, it is tested to understand if there had been a difference between the students in terms of their genders, educational status, jobs and income of their parents. The ideas of the teachers were provided by semi-structure interview form and a content analysis has been made for qualitative data. Results of theresearch: According to students' success in the test and understandability level results, in terms of the gender, educational status of their parents, their jobs and income; it has been pointed that there has been a meaningful success difference in the test between the groups of students in terms of their mothers' and fathers' educational status and their fathers' jobs and income. It has been realized that teachers can not have enough materials while teaching direction topic, they can't use the strategies techniques that all the students may understand better, that teachers evaluate directions as abstract and over the capacity of the students to get the point, and the teachers have some lacking points in planning before introducing the direction subjects and misconception and they have difficulty to take the misconception mistakes into consideration after the exams.
