The use of Barış Manço songs in the education of basic values in the primary school 4th grade Turkish lesson

Objective: The aim of the research is to reveal how the basic values education is realized in the 4th grade Turkish lesson conducted with the musical teaching method in which Barış Manço songs are used. Method: The research was conducted with the qualitative research method. The research was carried out with primary school 4th grade students in the 2021-2022 academic year. Basic qualitative research design was used as research design. Research data were obtained through observation, interviews, student products, student and researcher diaries. The data were analyzed and interpreted with the descriptive analysis method. Results: According to the results of the research, activities were designed in the Turkish lesson in the context of Barış Manço songs, and at the end of these activities, it was revealed that the students gave examples by transforming the root values in the 2018 Turkish lesson curriculum into behavior in their daily lives.. In the research, the students noticed the values with Barış Manço songs and applied them in their daily lives by transforming them into behaviors. At the end of the research process, it was concluded that in line with the opinions received from the parents, they observed positive changes in the behaviors of the children in the context of values. Following this values education process, parents also stated that positive changes occurred in the lives of their children at home, at school and in their social lives, and they applied these values by transferring them into behaviors in their daily lives. Conclusion and Suggestions: According to the results of the research, throughout the process of basic value education with Barış Manço songs, all the basic values were included in the songs, and at the end of this education process, students were asked to transfer these basic values into their behaviors and give examples from their in real lives. At the end of the education process, positive changes were observed in children's behaviors in terms of values, as confirmed by the feedback received from the parents. It has been stated that children have become more respectful, understanding and helpful individuals. Furthermore, it was also stated that children's desire to go to school was enhanced and school became a place of more fun. While this research was carried out with qualitative method, with the inclusion of quantitative studies in this field, subsequent studies can be carried out to prove whether Barış Manço songs are effective in teaching values.
