Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research study is to evaluate the relationship between the demands of women's management and attitudes towards female administrators, according to the opinions of teachers and administrators working in primary and secondary schools. This is a qualitative study. The sampling of the research consists of 855 educational employees, i.e. 770 teachers, 32 principals and 53 vice-principals working at schools in Amasya province's city center and towns in the 2011-2012 academic year. The data were obtained by "The Administrative Aspirations Scale for Female Teachers" and "The Scale of Attitudes towards Female Administrators". A scale concerning the administrative aspirations of female teachers and attitudes towards female administrators was administered to in-service primary school teachers and administrators and the obtained data were analyzed by employing descriptive statistics, i.e. percentage, frequency, mean, standard deviation. Whether female teachers' administrative aspirations and attitudes towards female administrators vary according to assignment, gender, age, marital status, education level, professional seniority, and entrance to the administrative skills test was investigated via independent samples of t-test, one-way variance analyse (ANOVA) and Kruskal-Wallis H test. Pearson's Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was calculated by using the sub-domains of the Administrative Aspirations Scale for Female Teachers and of the Scale of Attitudes towards Female Administrators to determine the relationship between the administrative aspirations of female teachers and the attitudes towards female administrators. The participants expressed that they partially agree on social impediment influential in the administrative aspirations of women, and the most eminent hindrance was the role conflict between motherhood and administratorship. As revealed by the obtained data, the female teachers partially agreed on the domain of the reasons why they desire to become an administrator, and the highlighted rationale behind the female teachers' aspirations to become an administrator is the view that female administrators set a good example for other women. It was also demonstrated that their passion for and interest in administratorship was the least effective variable. It was realized that female teachers with 11 years and less experience in particular more strongly agreed on the domain of the aspiration to become an administrator than the other employees did.It was found that the participants generally agreed upon the impediments inherent in administratorship and that long hours of work required by administratorship stood out as the major factor. The most underlined social factor was men's unwillingness to take order from women. It was observed that the participants exhibited a positive attitude towards the female employees' proper observance of professional ethics. From the viewpoint of professional ethics, while the participants unanimously agreed upon the well-organizedness of female administrators, they did not agree that they committed themselves to working at the expense of their private lives. It was discovered in concern with female administrators' role-related behavior in the domain of attitudes that the participants agreed that female administrators would generally be too emotional while making decisions and did not agree that they would act politically to look out for their own interests. The inquiry into the attitudes towards female administrators in consideration of gender revealed that women exhibited a more positive attitude than men did, and in the domain of relational role behavior that women were of the opinion that they knew how to speak to their inferiors and they did not agree that their emotionality would boost their professionalism. A significant relationship was observed between all the domains of the attitudes towards female administrators and the administrative aspirations of women. The findings indicated that the attitude towards female administrators were closely related to women's administrative preferences and that negative attitudes towards female administrators should be eliminated for women to be able to become administrators and changed into positive attitudes.
