Determining difficulties in literacy education based on views of teachers and parents

The purpose of study is determined difficulties in literacy education based on views of teachers and parents. With this purpose, difficulties and reasons in literacy education are studied determined in detail.Study was made 2nd term of 2006-2007 education-teaching year in May-June for evaluating process of literacy teaching in detail. Eight schools in Merkez, Bayramiç, Biga, Çan ve Lapseki districts of Çanakkale were gone for study. In sum, 18 literacy teachers and 54 parents were made semi structured interview.Findings that aproached data analyses were grouped views of teachers and parents. In this study, when interviews that made with teachers were examined, they arised 4 main categories that are ?Theaching Learning Process?, Student?, ?Environment? and ?Parents? with open coding. When main categories that appeared by open coding, they are detailed like phonetic literacy method, student book, reading- writing, culture, lack of stimulus, the number of student in classroom, etc. in subtopics.When interviews that made parents were examined, they arised 2 main categories that are ?Teaching Learning Process? and ?Student? with open coding. When main categories that are aproached by datas with views of parents examined, they are detailed like phonetic literacy method, reading-writing, etc. in subtopics.Teachers said that narrowed eye skipping because of teaching reading with integrating phonics in phonetic literacy method. And this is one of the reason for reducing student?s reading speed. Also this difficulties reflect to understanding, compherension, construction and self expression.Teaching bases on cooperation student- teacher- parent. And success doesn?t depend on only teacher or student. So parents are to become concious of phonetic literacy method with parent education. And parent education starts preschool period. Because datas show that difficulties with incorrect reading-writing teaching of parents in preschool period.
