Ilyas Ibn Isa: His life, works and thoughts

Many significant intellectuals lived in the 16th century, the most powerful period of the Ottoman Period, especially in the region of Akhisar. İlyas ibn İsa, who left numerous works, was one of those scholars. İlyas ibn İsa, whose Dervish lodge stood beside a madrasah, belonged to the Şemsiyye branch of Bayrami religious order/ that was founded by Akşemseddin and he founded the İseviyye branch of the same religious order. While living among the folk, he also had a connection with the administration through princes. Trying to get to know him can cast a light on understanding the scholarship, Sufism, politics and community life of the period. This study will introduce his works and based on his writings his life history. Some of the important works of him include Şerh-i Esmâ-i Hüsnâ, Fusûl-i Aşere, Rumûzü'l-Künûz and Menâkıb-ı Şeyh Mecdüddîn His works that mainly concentrates on Vahdat-i Vucud offers advises to sultan, princes, and statesmen especially to 'lala' teachers of princes to a great extent. It takes attention that as a scholar and murshid, who lived during the dynasties of II. Bayezid, Yavuz Sultan Selim and Kanuni Sultan Süleyman, his works heavily focused on cifr, havas, vefk.
