Abstract (EN)

This thesis entitled ?Imam Barbahari and his School? aims to identify an activist Hanbali leader and scholar of the third/fourth century of Islam, Abu Muhammad Hasan b. Ali b. Khalaf al-Barbahari (d.339/950).The study consists of two chapters following an introduction which gives the brief history of the Abbasid State and Hanbalism with a short biography of its founder, Ahmad b. Hanbal. The First Chapter presents the life of Barbahari on the basis of several remarkable incidents in which he and his group were involved. The Second Chapter traces Barbahari?s thought, as reflected especially in his only surviving book, Sharh al-Sunna. It also introduces some personalities whom we suppose to have been influenced by Barbahari and his thought. In the Conclusion, there is a summary of the findings of the study.
