Abstract (EN)

Aim: In this study we aim to show that the effects of ethyl pyruvat, is known as an antioxidant and anti-inflamatory agent, on the stress that influence quality of life and an important health problem. Material and Methods: Mice which was stressed by immobilization stres model put into 5 groups: 1st group; control group and 2nd group; immobilization stress group (IM) (1 ml of sterile saline intraperitoneal (i.p.) once a day for 7 days), 3rd group; İM+Ethy Pyruvat (EP) groupand 4th groupEP group ; (50 mg/kg (i.p.) once a day for 7 days), 5th group; İM+Fluoxetin (FLO) group; (5 mg/kg (i.p.) once a day for 7 days. After the 7th days weight controls, open field test, forced swimming test and passive avoidance test were made. Also in the brain tissue BDNF, NGF, GPX and SOD levels were measured Results:The result of the experiment, in the İM group there was a statistically significant decrease in the weight, deterioration in locomotor activity and learning and memory fonction and anxiety and behavior like depression. İn addition there was a significantly decrease in the levels of BDNF, NGF, GPX and SOD. In the IM+EP group; EP has no effect on the decrease of weigt, locomotor activity, learning-memory fonction and the levels of NGF and SOD. But in the forced swimming test; EP decreased immobilty timeand also increased significantly BDNF and GPX levels. Conclusion:As a result, ethyl pyruvat have effect rather like fluoxetin on depression-like behavior that induced by immobilization stres by reduce oxidative stres and enhance synthesis of neurotrophic factors.
