FORMULATION OF INFRARED REFLECTION CAMOUFLAGE PAINTAND INVESTIGATION OF PIGMENT EFFECTS(M.Sc.Thesis)Yavuz ARDAHANLIOĞLUGAZI UNIVERSITYINSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGYJune 2006ABSTRACTNatural plant cover and its color have certain reflection values in bothvisible (380-700 nm) and near infrared (700-900 nm) regions.Camouflage paint formulation that have reflection values appropriate tothe natural plant cover provides protection for the military purposeweapons, vehicles and equipments against enemy naked eye and IRRtype night vision devices. Acid insoluble green pigments predominatelycomposed of cobalt, titanium, zinc and chromium oxides with oteroxides permitted, chromium oxide, red iron oxide, yellow iron oxide, black iron oxide, chromium orange and carbazole dioxazine violetpigments containing green (MIL-STD-595 color standarts, green 38334094 color code) colored aliphatic polyurethane based infraredreflection camouflage paint is formulated by considering the plantcover of Türkiye. The chromaticity, visible brightness, CIE LAB (L* a* b*)and 320-1500 nm wavelength reflection values of the formulatedinfrared reflection camouflage paint are measured. CIE LAB color spacaare measured with respect to CIE 1976 color space at 2Ë observationangle. As a result of these studies, the aliphatic polyurethane basedIRR camouflage paint is formulated which is appropriate to thet greenplant cover in nature. The formulated paint is applicable to the militarypurpose weapons, vehicles and equipments for protection againstenemy naked eye and the night vision devices (working range 450-750nm)Science Code : 912Key Words : infrared, camouflage, paintPage Number : 100Adviser : Yrd.Doç.Dr Muzaffer BALBAŞI
