Abstract (EN)

In this study, totally 54 human tissue specimens were obtained from 37 patients with breast carcinomas and 17 women with gynaecologic tumors. These specimens were stained with IRF-1, IRF-2 and p53 antibodies using the immunohistochemical method. While both IRF-1 and p53 have tumor suppressor activity, IRF-2 transcription factor has oncogenic activity. In this investigation, in all types of human tumors (n=54) used in this study, correlation between expressions of IRF-1 and IRF-2 was found to be significant statistically (p<0.05). Also, in all types of human tumors (n=54) used in tis study, there were statistical significant correlation between IRF-1 and p53 expressions (p<0.05), but there were not statistical differences between expressions of IRF-2 and p53 (p>0.05). In human breast carcinomas (n=37) and gynaecologic tumors (n=17), independently, correlation between expressions of IRF-1 and IRF-2 was found to beimportant statistically (p<0.05). In the invasive ductal carcinomas, a kind of human breast carcinomas, there were no statistical differences between expressions of either IRF-1 and p53 or IRF-2 and p53 (pX).05), while the correlation between IRF-1 and IRF-2 expressions was found to be important statistically (p<0.05). In the other two types of human breast carcinomas, there were no statistical differences between expressions of p53 and the IRF-1 and IRF-2 (p>0.05). In the cervix tumors, a kind of gynaecologic tumors, the correlation between expressions of IRF-1 and p53 was found to be very important statistically (p<0.05), while in the other two types of gynaecologic tumors there were no statistical differences between expressions of p53 and the IRF-1 and IRF-2 (pX).05). In this study, expressions of IRF-1 and IRF-2 were also compared with prognostic factors, such as age of patient and tumor diameter, but the correlation between expressions of two proteins and these prognostic factors was not found to be important statistically (pX).05). The other aim of this study is to determine whether the apoptosis induction in IRF-1 -negative / p53-positive or IRF-1 -positive / p53-negative cases is different from the apoptosis induction in both IRF-1 and p53 positive cases. But the observed DNA fragmentation of these tumor cases is approximately similar, and therefore we concluded that there can be different genes playing roles in these types of tumors.
