Abstract (EN)

The purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of inspiratory muscle training on respiratory functions and respiratory strength in individuals with down syndrome. For this purpose, 16 subjects participated in the study as to be 9 experiments and 7 control groups. The experiment group was trained for 4 weeks 5 days a week with inspiratory muscle training device. In both groups, respiratory functions and respiratory muscle strength testing were performed before and after the training period. The SPSS 22.0 program was used for analyzing obtained data. The means were examined 2x2 mixed factor ANOVA and LSD correction test, and means of percentage changes analyzed with Man Whitney U test. In the result of the statistical analysis, a significant change was found in the respiratory functions and respiratory muscle strength in the experimental group end of the 4 weeks training period. This change was found to be different as percentage compared to control group (p<0.05). In summary, it can be said that the inspiratory muscle training have positive effect on respiratory functions and respiratory muscle strength in individuals with down syndrome.
