The mediator role of autistic traits in the relationship between the level of internet gaming disorder and loneliness

In this study aim that examine predictor relationship between symptom level of internet gaming disorder (IGD), subthreshold autistic traits and loneliness in adults. It was aimed to examine the mediating role of subthreshold autistic traits in the predictive relationship between loneliness and IGD levels. Besides, this study aim that shows to determine which demographic and gaming behaviour qualities are most efficient variable/s in IGD. Sample of this study consist of 390 participant ages of between 18-65. The data collected by online questionnaire in the study. Firstly, Participants replied to demographic information form which includes playing game behaviour and demographic qualities. Then, in order of, participants answered Internet Gaming Disorder Scale Short Form, UCLA loneliness Scale and Autism Spectrum Quotient (ASQ). Statistical analysis of this study was performed using SPSS 22 software. Regression analysis was used to determine the predictive power of the variables. As a result of regression analysis, it was determined that loneliness and autistic traits were prediction of IGD level. Decision trees were applied in the study. Males, aged 18-29, and ASQ score above 25 were found to be the riskiest group among the participants. Furthermore, paper determines that multiplayer game preference with computer or game console in online platforms is also a risk factor for IGD.
