Abstract (EN)

This study aimed to investigate the presence of iroD and iroN genes in Klebsiella pneumoniae isolated from patients with urinary tract infections. More than 350 urine samples were collected from patients visited Al-Kindi Teaching Hospital in Baghdad city for treatment, these samples were cultured for 24 hours for bacterial growth and antibiotics sensitivity test by using the ViteK2 system, the positive samples for K. pneumoniae growth only were selected. The present results showed that 43.33% of the participants were males. The antibiotic sensitivity results showed that the highest resistant percentage of K. pneumoniae isolates was appeared with cefazolin, amoxicillin/ clavulanic acid, cefuroxime, cefuroxime axetil antibiotics (88%, 86%, 80% and 70%, respectively), while the lowest resistant percentage was with gentamicin and fosfomycin antibiotics (14%, 14%, respectively). Also, the results showed that 18% of K. pneumoniae isolates have the iroD gene in their genome, which were distributed at 21.5% for females and 15.3 for males. While 6% of K. pneumoniae isolates have the iroN gene in their genome, and 7.7% was isolated from females, while in males, 4.7% of K. pneumoniae isolates were positive for the presence of iroN gene. 2023, 52 pages Keywords: Klebsiella pneumoniae, PCR, iroD gene, iroN gene, DNA sequencing
