Investigation of the relationship between some biochemical parameters and IL-6 gene expression and disease severity in covid-19 patients living in Iraq

The aim of this study is to determine the severity of the disease with some biochemical markers and the relationship between IL-6 gene expression and LDH, CRP, S. ferritin, D-dimer level in COVID-19 patients in Iraq. This study was carried out on patients aged 6 to 80 years in Kirkuk Hospital, Iraq, between April and July 2022. 150 patients with COVID-19 infection and 50 healthy people participated in this study. Patients with COVID-19 infection were divided into three groups according to their symptoms as mild, moderate and severe. In this study, using Real-time PCR and ELISA, Ferritin biomarker was evaluated in control, mild, normal and severe groups (16.28>F-Critical-3.6), respectively (F- 37.77> F-Critical-5.43, F-77.11>F-Critical-8.21) and F= 40.82>F-Critical-7.42) levels were statistically significant (p<0.01) when compared with C-reactive protein (CRP), LDH and D-dimer biomarkers. As a result, it is thought that biochemical parameters will be a useful parameter in the follow-up of patients with COVID-19, and it is recommended that all tests be performed based on genetic examination in future COVID-19 tests
