Abstract (EN)
Since ancient times, using carpets has been mostly due to a feeling of attraction to beauty, and not merely out of necessity and need, as early humans carpeted their dwelling places with animal hides or yarns of plants too.Later on, and after the invention of many requirements and essentials of human life such as the spinning and knitting machines, and the establishment of fabric manufactories, and afterwards, large factories of carpeting and machine-loomed rugs, humans' need for carpeting pieces was largely met. However, humans have always been drawn to the use of elegant hand-loomed rugs in their places of residence; and, therefore, people's passion for hand-loomed rugs has encouraged rug-looming artists to come up with beautiful and diverse patterns and colors. As long as the customers' passion for hand-loomed rugs persists, production of such beautiful hand-loomed carpets will continue. The aim of the present thesis on the Iranian Rug is studying the history of the Iranian Rug and as well as its looming methods and its status in the world. The Iranian Rug signifies the good taste, elegance, and artistic nature of Iranians, and it has been shining for centuries in great museums across the world with its outstanding colors, patterns, and endurance as a message from the Iranian people indicating their rich culture and civilization. The Iranian Rug has a special status in international markets. In the present thesis, it is tried to address issues ranging from the basic looming apparatuses and raw materials to colors, patters, and dimensions of rugs; from the most ancient rugs to the most recent ones; and also, the sales of this valuable commodity.
