Abstract (EN)

For this study, a research has been made on the relation between the self-perception and the level of aggression in hearing-impaired teens. The sample group of this research is composed of 230 hearing-impaired adolescents who are being educated in educational institutions and private rehabilitation centres in Fatih district of Istanbul. The data obtained through this research is analysed using the SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) software. Among the variables of the research there are gender, education, duration of special education received, whether the subject is pre-schooled or not, monthly income of the family, whether the subjects' parents are together or separated, number of siblings, parents' educational status, reason, type and the level of the loss of hearing and duration of hearing aid usage. These variables, which represent the main features of hearing-impaired teenagers, are compared in terms of self-conception and sub-dimensions of aggression scale. In order to determine the appropriate statistical method, whether the distribution of data obtained on self-conception, physical aggression, verbal aggression, anger and aggression is normal or not is checked using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and it is shown that the data is in fact normal. A correlation analysis is also performed to detect the relations between the quantitative variables of the research. The findings are evaluated with 95% confidence and %5 significance level. When the correlations between the units of the sub-dimensions in the aggression scale is examined, it is seen that there is a meaningful, positive correlation between physical and verbal aggression. According to this finding, when the tendency to physical aggression increases, the tendency to verbal aggression increases accordingly.
