Abstract (EN)

The popular novelist of the Early Republican Period Turkish literature, Ġskender Fahrettin Sertelli, tried to inculcate the modern and secular human model that the new regime tried to create, through his works. In his historical novels, Fatih Sultan Mehmet, II. Describing the reigns of Abdülhamit and Sultan Ġbrahim, Ġskender Fahrettin Sertelli praised the achievements of the republic while criticizing the Ottoman Empire and its institutions. He wrote novels, stories, texts developed around the newspaper and personal development books in order to create the historical consciousness of the society in the transformation phase and to bring national consciousness to the society. In this study, İskender Fahrettin Sertelli's novels called Deliler Saltanatı, Telli Haseki, Abdülhamit ve Afrodit, Bizans'ın Son Günleri and İstanbul'u Nasıl Aldık? are analyzed using historical criticism theory. In the first part, the art, life and works of Ġskender Fahrettin Sertelli were introduced, and in the second part, information on the theory of historical criticism was given.
