Abstract (EN)

Material of literature is the language and in the every literary work the characteristics of language generates the style of that work. In other words language and style, is a whole and cannot be considered separately. Therefore, material of language is a great contribution to expression. Based on this idea, in this work, word groups are examined in the novel of İskender Pala's "Babil'de Ölüm İstanbul'da Aşk". Evaluation of the work is as follows: At the first part, the author's life, major works and his literary personalities are mentioned. Also in the introduction, syntax and word groups are defined with respect to different linguists' opinions. Second section is the review section, wherein the word groups are studied in the chosen book. Information about each word group referring to the opinions of linguists was briefly given. For each word group examples are given based on certain pages of the work. In addition, word groups were also investigated for the place rather than in other word groups and according to their tasks in sentences. At the end of each word group is a graph and chart showing the distribution of sample were placed. Third section is the conclusion section. Wherein the graph and chart given which are showing the general distribution of entire word groups. To the last part of the study "Resources" section and the "Appendix" section has been added. As a result of the study performed in the novel the noun phrases and adjective phrases at most, while the group of exclamation points and numbers were least-used phrases has been observed. In addition, we were concluded that appeared the language of novel is quite good although a bit heavy to understand because author frequently used terms and public utterance.
