İsmail Hakkı Ünal: Life and his place in the science of hadith

In our country, many studies have been conducted in the field of Islamic sciences in the post-Republican period. It is also obvious that hadiths came as the most important Islamic source after the Quran. In previous centuries, the emphasis was on the authenticity of hadiths by looking at their chains of narrators, but the hadiths were not systematically subjected to an authenticity study in terms of their content, which is a deficiency that our sources have shown us. I aimed to make the studies of Ismail Hakki Unal, who conducted studies in this field after 1980 and adopted the understanding and implementation of hadiths as his principle, the main subject of our thesis. Ismail Hakki Bey wrote hadiths and their interpretations in magazines for six years in order to ensure that the Prophet was understood correctly. His interest not only in the field of hadith but also in the field of law led him to research the hadith of a person like Abu Hanifa, who correctly interpreted hadith knowledge in life. Ismail Hakki Bey's doctoral thesis "Imam Abu Hanifa's Understanding of Hadith and the Hadith Method of the Hanafi School" is the first study in this field in our country, and has even set an example for many people's studies in this field. He has written seventeen articles and over forty academic articles in the Turkish Religious Foundation's Islamic Encyclopedia. He has contributed to many book chapters and has written a Hadith textbook to be taught in Imam Hatip High Schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education. He was a member of the Board of Religious Affairs for two terms and was the dean of the Faculty of Theology for eight years and seven months. Our thesis, which was created by examining the life and works of someone who contributed so much to the science of Hadith, has examined our teacher's Turkish articles and his works, which he also translated, have been discussed. His attitude towards Hadith and the importance he gave, the love and respect he felt for the Prophet Muhammad have been evaluated within the scope of his works. The interpretations of the Hadiths he wrote have been shared with the public and their positive effects on the people of our country have been examined. His thesis consultancies were also discussed and his contributions to the science of hadith and his knowledge of hadith were tried to be revealed.
