Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Park Garden and Green Areas Department Occupational Health and Safety Analysis (İstanbul European Side case)

The work areas are full of factors that affect employees' health negatively according to the workload. These factors time to time cause occupational accidents and diseases; as a result, physical, mental and social health problems arise in the individual. The working conditions of the employees who work in the parks, gardens, and green-fields in the European side of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality are tried to be analyzed with this study. The hazards and risks that may arise in terms of work safety during the production, maintenance and repair works in the parks, gardens, and green-fields; the diseases that related to working conditions; the solutions recommendations for these diseases and the betterment of working conditions are examined within the scope of this study. Survey is used in order to acquire data for the study, and 207 employees are conducted a survey. At the end of the study it is defined that 37% of the participants have more than 5 years of work experience. It is detected that 93, 2% of the participants got medical examination when starting the work and 51, 7% of the participants were trained. Participants state that they go to the occupational physician mostly when they have a health problem. It is detected that 8, 2% of the participants had a work accident. It is identified that participants have pain in the evenings at most and they suffer from backache, low back pain, and foot pain mostly. According to this study, the most important factor causing these pains is the compulsory moves related to the work. Participants state that a stress-free work environment is necessary in order to get rid of pain, and training about the factors that cause this pain should be given to the employees.
