Analysis of Istanbul city squares by the focus on urban imagery

The buildings in the cities have big importance for having special meanings of the city from past to today. Istanbul is one the most important cities in the world because of its historical past and cultural wealth. The basic goal of this study is imagery oriented examination of Istanbul's squares. For reaching to the goal, first of all, the literature reviewed and then Beyazıt, Eminönü, Eyüp, Galata, Sultanahmet, Ortaköy and Taksim Squares which were selected samples of this study, have been researched. The study contains 169 people's opinions about the squares that have been gathered by questionnaire. The results showed that all of them have different special meanings and values according to the imagery of the city.
