Investigation of the effects of transportation on water basins in Istanbul in terms of legislation and applications

In this thesis study; The environmental impacts of the present and future transportation planning in the watersheds located within the borders of Istanbul. Terkos, Buyukcekmece, Alibey, Sazlıdere, Elmalı, Ömerli and Darlik dam reservoirs were examined one by one in terms of each dam watershed. In the first section of the thesis, the subject is presented in introduction part with purpose and method of the thesis has been put forward. In the second section, the environmental effects of transportation planning, transportation urbanization relation, sustainable transportation, purpose, scope, environmental effects of transportation planning and transportation applications in watersheds have been examined. In the third section, historical development process of watershed planning and management, purpose, scope and targets of watershed planning, evaluation of legal framework of watershed planning, plans, laws and regulations applied for protection of watersheds in the world and in our country are examined. In the fourth section, ecosystem properties, land use in the watersheds, current transportation axes and their properties and their place in plans and regulations of each drinking watersheds (Terkos, Buyukcekmece, Alibey, Sazlıdere, Elmalı, Ömerli and Darlık) of Istanbul drinking watersheds are examined. In the fifth and sixth section, the situation was evaluated and suggestions about the subject were presented as a result of the determinations made. The protection of watersheds in the world and Turkey was identified to be the greatest threat of urbanization.
