A reserach about the Istinye bay area

This dissertation is written to understand İstinye settlement which is located in İstanbul Bosphorus bay area by the literature of urban bay areas and spatial analysises.In the first chapter, the subject, the purpose and the method of this dissertation is explained.In the second chapter, definiton of urban bay areas and city-shore relationship has been researched overlooking the seaport regeneration projects in world literature. Datas associated with the planning principles of regeneration projects about seaports, shipyards and the nearby places have been established.Waterfront regeneration projects produced in Türkiye have also been researched.In the third chapter; analysises have been made to understand the İstinye bay area which was chosen as the field research :1) The silhouette of the Bosphorus from the sea has been photographed to reveal the balance between residential areas and landscape.2) İstinye bay area neighbourhood historical area analysis.3) İstinye neighbourhood landuse in historical period have been researched. The periods below were researched:?The establishment of İstinye settlement.?1900-1955 : İstinye shipyard and stone quarry development process.?1956-1965 : The development of industrial areas in İstinye valley as planned.?1966-1975 : Shutting off the industrial areas and declaration as of a site area.?1976-1989 : Increase and density in illegal settlements.?1990-2006 : Decentralisation of industrial activities- leading in service industry.- Landuse layer of 2000- Landuse layer of 2007- Current photos of İstinye4) The balance between landscape and residential area in current landuse of İstinye has been defined by scale of 1/1000 section.- overview photos and photos5) İstinye transportation analysis has been made.6) The values that affects the landuse of İstinye neighbourhood have been analyzied.The importance of İstinye in historical period which has rapid population growth in Sarıyer district, the period of the usage of bay area as a seaport and shipyard and current usage period have been researched.Keywords: City-Shore, shipyard, waterfront regeneration projects, İstanbul, the Bosphorus, İstinye.
