Critical role of effective communication in events of fire-fighting: Sample of Istanbul Fire Department

Being fast and effective act at firefighting, which is one of the most difficult and dangerous occupation in the World, is very important. In order to ensure success in this intervention process, the exchange of information among the team members must be timely and accurate. It should be noted that an effective communication is the key words to obtain good results. The aim of this study is to compare the two different situations occured by Beyoğlu team where the communication is provided among all the team members and Kocasinan team where the communication is provided among limited number of team members according to 5w1h questions method, the intervention and communication processes by applying case studies. As a result of this comparison, it was observed that Beyoğlu team performed faster and more effective intervention. According to results obtained in this study, It is seen that an efficient group communication will be able to achieve a more successful intervention process. Moreover, it will be prevented occupational hazards and precautions can be taken against the hazards that may occur at the scene. Consequently, communication is the major importance of being successful in intervening firefighting events. Therefore, all the firefighters stuff must carry their radios.
