Crisis management applications in five star tourism management in izmir and career management effects on tourism management staff in the period of economic crisis

Crises that are known as they have declined countries' welfare and living standards quickly, are affecting many sectors. One of the most affected sectors is "Tourism". Crisis concept in tourism is growing gradually because of internal and external causes. Economic conditions made accommodation business have their places in an intense competition, making them face with crises.In our developing world, career concept has become more popular. Career is a series of perceivable attitudes and behaviours about one's activities and experiences gained from his/her work during his/her lifespan. There are many appliacations for the development of these attitudes and behaviours. One of these applications named "Career Management" has great importance today. Career management is defined as organizational processes that meet both organizational and individual needs encountered when planning careers of individuals. Besides, career planning is expressed as progression in which individuals set their goals and revise their developmental activities that they should follow in order to reach these goals.This study consists of three parts. In first chapter, whole concept of crisis, crisis types and economic crisis in tourism are examined. In second chapter, career concept, career management and career planning are stated. As for third chapter, career management practices with the employees of four five star accommodation business operating in Izmir city center and the results of the effects of economic crisis on the career plans of hotel staff are mentioned.Key Words: Crisis, Economic Crisis, Crisis in Tourism Management, Career, Career Management, Career Planning.
