Attitudes of teacher education students in the city of İzmir towards mathematic courses and their learning strategies

Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this research is to investigate students? attitudes towards mathematics lesson and analyse their learning strategies.This study is in the survey model and it is conducted by the joining of 820 students attending at 9,10,11 and 12th grades of four Anadolu Öğretmen Lisesi in İzmir at first semester of the 2009-2010 education year. Students from the 9th classes are selected at random. On the otder hand, students from the 10 th, 11th and classes are mostly students at science or maths brachers.The attitudes towards mathematics lesson and the learning strategies are studied according to gender,grades and parents? educational level.The data of this research were gathered by the ?Attitudes towards mathematic scale? developed by Nazlıçiçek and Ertkin (2002) and by the ?Learning strategies scale?developed by Açıkgöz and Ellez (1996). İn order to analyze the obtained data mean, standard deviation, frequency, percentage, t-test,analysis of variance,scheffee tests are used. The data is analyzed by SPSS 11.0 computer program.As a result of the research, it was detected that these students? attitudes towards mathematics lesson is generally positive and they use the learning strategies at an average or higher frequency.
