Investigation of urban transformation process on İzmir-Cennetçeşme district

Industrial revolution caused spatial organization in developed country cities to exchange in time. Different spatial issues arose related to this exchange. Restructuring approach needed to be able to make solutions for these issues has brought up the urban regeneration. It is thought to be solution for urbanization problems which are more densely and highly related to economical difficulties in developing countries especially Turkey. In recent years, urban regeneration has began to major on ?squatter? areas where the poor regions live.In this study, squatter areas as being one of urban transformation applications aim areas, examined by approaching its vulnerability conditions. And also, squatter areas? problems and their solutions that should be exposed in transformation course, considered in Cennetçeşme District specialize. In addition, in theoretical framework about ?urban transformation?, ?squtter areas? and ?vulnerability? notions, the samples in the World and Turkey are examined and a literature working were done. The arguments about that notions are considered. In Cennetçeşme District, the source, the grade and the condition of necessity are examined by its spatial, social and economic dimensions. The possible problems that should be appeare in the releation between transformation and defensive were fasten down and the suggestions about these problems?solutions were made.Key Words: Urban transformation, squatter areas, urban poverty, vulnerability.
