Researching historical development process of İzmir Kulturpark and fair zone and forming its design programme

Izmir, having felt of all weightyness of occupation during Turkish War of Independence, and having become a symbol of triumph later on, has shaken with the fire that had begun immediately after the liberation, the fire has caused the city?s commercial identity to be destroyed and to lose the hope.On the days when Lozan Conference was in progress, in the direction of redevelopment of the country, especially of Izmir, with a decision having the quality of a message, ?Model Exhibition? has been organized in Izmir that had been realized with and within the First Economic Congress and had been considered the first step of İzmir Fair. In the ?Make İzmir a city of fairs? recommendation of Mustafa Kemal, during congress in the direction of trade?sman group?s demands, in the making of decision to open exhibitions having general and permanent qualities in important commercial centers of the country, the effect of having passed with succession of ?Model Exhibition? is great.After this point, the evolutional history of the fair that began with 9th September Exhibition in the year of 1927 and reached to the day and `Kulturpark? that had been opened in the year of 1936 and having been considered one of the enlightened works of Early Republican Era, are the important phenomenons that reflect the city?s collective effort, productive thoughts and actions of local actors and people.In this study, the steps taken in the time passed from the origin of the thought of fair until today realized in the Kulturpark, discussions have been made over relevant geospatial decisions and different sources. Lastly a design programme for the future under threat of dysfunction is proposed for Kulturpark.
