Contribution of the novel of Jules Verne ?The Children of Captain Grant? to the eduction of children

This master thesis tries to explain the contribution of the novel of Jules Verne ?The Children of Captain Grant? to the education of children.The study firstly considers the place and importance of the literature and books for the child education. Consecutively, in the next chapter, legendary life of the French writer Jules Verne and some of his works are considered. Then, since Jules Verne wrote ?the Children of Captain Grant? as novel, novel is compared with other classes of literature like stories and tales.In the later parts, positive contributions of ?the Children of Captain Grant? to the education of children, like charity, responsibility, hospitality, hard-working, code of conducts, patriotism, love of family, love of God, patience, self-criticism, cool headedness, creativity, trust, cooperation, brave, optimism are considered in terms of how they are achieved. Then, other elements which can have negative effects on education are considered. The feelings in the novel like greed, displeasure, hopelessness, racism, humiliation, brutality, irresponsibility are considered.Finally, in the last chapter, it is asked whether ?Does Jules Verne direct children correctly with his novel `The Children of Captain Grant??? with some sub-headings, it is concluded that the novel develops children by educating them.
