THESIS NARRATIVE TECHNIQUES IN JUREK BECKER'S NOVEL 'JAKOB THE LIAR' Şahbender ÇORAKLI Supervisor: Assoc.Prof.Dr. S.Zeki BAYRAM 2001 -PAGES : 176 Jury: Assoc.Prof.Dr S.Zeki BAYRAM Prof.Dr. Yılmaz ÖZBEK Assist.Prof.Dr. Adnan ŞENOCAK This study is concerned with the narrative technique in Jakob the Liar, the first novel by Jnrek Becker who is a novelist, short-story writer, scenario, radio and TV playwright. The study is composed of four main chapters, exclusive of an introductoiy part and the conclusion. The first chapter includes one analyses the viewpoint of the author in the novel and, consequently, the concepts of the narrator and the general discourses of the figures. The second chapter deals with the setting of the novel; the third with characters on the classical basis and the doers of the actions on the structural level. And the fourth chapter is concerned with the narrative and the concept of time within the narrative. It has been concluded that Becker has masterfully and efficiently employed the narrative techniques in this novel despite the fact that it is his first novel and that he himself stated "One can only be a writer after he has written his first work, not before it."
