Abstract (EN)

This study was carried out between 2013-2014 years to investigate some germination characteristics of thyme (Thymbra spicata L.) in Kadirli region. In the experiment, 3 different colored Thymbra spicata L. seeds were used, 5 different methods were applied by sowing 10 seeds to the pots those were prepared for sowing before. The highest germination rates, following applied methods, have been observed in brown colored seeds and in seeds applied with GA3 (500 ppm) application as 7.2 and 7.3 pieces respectively. The highest germination power, however, has been achieved from brown colored seeds as 7.6 pieces and depending upon the applications, from the cold stratification + GA3 (500 ppm) method (9.0 pieces). The highest sprout shooting rate in thyme seeds has also been obtained from brown colored seeds (8.0 pieces) and following the cold stratification + GA3 application method. Similarly, the highest values for fresh leaf weight and essential oils have been obtained from the brown colored seeds and seeds applied with cold stratification + GA3 and GA3 (500 ppm) applications. Keywords: Thymbra spicata, germination, leaf yield, volatile fatty acid.
