Abstract (EN)

Computerized tomography (CT) scans after head traumas is important in making emergency assessments and detecting the conditions potentially requiring treatment. A good structural imaging is possible by CT. However, it may sometimes prove insufficient in explaining neurological disorders. Both structural and physiological assessments are possible using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Particularly Diffusion MRI is valuable in its ease of application and diagnosibility.Released depending on volume and pressure loading from cardiac ventricles, BNP is a natriuretic and vasolidator factor, and may reduce cerebral blood flow. It is released as PreproBNP and divided into N-Terminal proBNP and BNP. What causes an effect in the body is the BNP. But it disappears from the blood in a short time. NT-proBNP measurement, which exists in the blood for an extended time and released equally at all times of the day, will be preferred. It is reported that BNP plasma concentration has increased following head trauma. However, they have mostly focused on patients with severe head traumas. Our objective is to evaluate the serum NT-proBNP levels of ischemic and hemorrhagic lesions detected with diffusion MRI in mild and moderate head traumas.In our study, we evaluated 30 patients with head traumas. A 10 patient control group with no history of traumas was created in order to determine normal serum NT-proBNP values. The patients? cranial-diffusion MRIs were taken at the 24th hour and 48th hour post hospitalization. Plasma NT-proBNP levels were considered at the same periods. The correlation between the 24th hour and 48th hour Intraaxial ischemi (IAISC) and Intraaxial hemorrhage (IAHEM) values and 24th hour and 48th hour BNP values was found statistically meaningful.In conclusion, after head traumas we observed that serum NT-proBNP levels may be higher in patients with wide intraaxial lesions than in patients with smaller intraaxial lesions. In addition in the late hours of trauma, serum NT-proBNP levels were increased in patients whom cerebral parenchymal lesions were expanded. This is considered with serum NT-proBNP levels may be important in the follow-up of cerebral parenchymal lesions? dimensions.
