Abstract (EN)
Rural houses are unique structures made by local craftsmen with materials and construction techniques specific to the region. With industrialization, there has been migration from villages to cities. In Bertiz villages, whose population decreased with these migrations, traditional rural structures were abandoned and started to disappear over time. In this study, some of the houses in the Bertiz region, which are disappearing day by day, have been introduced and documented in order to pass them on to future generations. In the first part of the thesis, the aim, scope, method and limitations of the study are explained. In the second part, the concepts of rural and vernacular architecture, rural settlements, rural settlements in Anatolia, the factors that make up rural architecture, the preservation process of traditional rural architecture in the world and in Turkey, and approaches specific to the preservation of rural architecture are given. In the third chapter, the physical, socio-cultural, economic characteristics and historical process of Kahramanmaraş and Bertiz are discussed. In the fourth chapter, the characteristics of the villages of Bahçeli, Başdervişli, Kemallı, Kılağlı and Yenipınar, which are among the rural settlements examined in the Bertiz region, are explained, and the structures examined are included in this section in catalogs. In the fifth chapter, housing plan types, material properties, facade features and construction techniques of Bertiz Rural Houses are explained. In the sixth chapter, the current situation of the houses and conservation problems are evaluated. In the seventh chapter, conclusion and protection suggestions are given.
