The application of active learning approach in the techniques of preparing pattern lesson and a study conducted to determine its effect on students success

In this research, the main aim is to determine the effect of ?Active Learning Approach? on students? success in ?The Techniques of Preparing Patterns? lesson of the students in Gazi University Professional Education Faculty Clothing Industry Teaching Program.The participants of this research consist of seventy five students who are in the first grade of Gazi University Professional Education Faculty The Department of Clothing Industry and Fashion Design Education Clothing Industry Teaching Program. The subjects of the experiment are comprised of forty students who will be chosen randomly from seventy five students continuing to study in the first grade of Gazi University Professional Education Faculty The Department of Clothing Industry and Fashion Design Education Clothing Industry Teaching Program. Twenty students from forty students which are approximately equal to fifty three per cent of the participants will take part in the group of experiment, and another twenty students will take part in the control group. These numbers, in terms of being the representation of all participants are thought to have effective power.Within the scope of this research, firstly a recognition form has been applied to the students with the aim of identifying variables in the students that cannot be controlled and providing the equality of the experiment and control group. After the application of the recognition form, in the first week of the application, a prior test which assesses the level of the students? readiness for the first grade lesson ?The Techniques of Preparing Patterns? , and in addition, a preliminary application test which is related to the level of application have been made to the students of the experiment and control groups. During the four weeks in which the application was carried out, in the lesson `The Techniques of Preparing Pattern?, the subjects `Measuring? and `Drawing Basic Body Pattern? have been explained to the students in the experiment group with `Active Learning Approach? and with `Traditional Education Method? in the control group. After the explanation of the subjects was completed, a final test assessing the level of knowledge and understanding and a final application exam assessing the level of application have been made to the experiment and control groups.SPSS 11.0 packet programme has been utilized in connection with the data which were obtained. Nonparametric Test has been used in analysis. Of Nonparametric Tests, Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test For Paired Samples has been used for the related measurements.As a result of the statistics done, it has been demonstrated that there is a meaningful difference in favour of the experiment group between the success of the experiment group in which Active Learning Approach has been used and the success of the control group in which Traditional Education Method has been used.
