Investigation of the importance of urban landscape equipment in public spaces on the case of Antalya Kaleiçi

Urban spaces are key areas in which occurs all the urban activities and shaped by the societies' socio-economic and cultural structure. Public spaces are shared areas which would be used by all participants of the society and satisfying public needs of the dependent society and controlled by the local authorities. Active specifications of the public spaces are closely related with public health and directly effect on the space quality perception. Spaces which were design mainly on the user centered, there are many different factors that are issued with space quality analysis. Most effectively and primary criterions in research literature are functionality, aesthetics, design/shape and comforts. Like the many other researchers, the criterions "Functionality" is a necessity for achieving good space quality. If the functionality criteria were high, a space quality will be more satisfying and should give to the space user a better using experience. By the aspect of the benefits for the users, urban landscape furniture are important indigents of public spaces which gain multi functionality of the space. Relationship between public spaces and urban landscape furniture are discussed under many titles like design principles, functionality and their spacing. Moreover, this study is discussed the urban landscape furniture in addition to the recent literature by the aspect of the material which was used for current urban furniture. The unique aspect of this study is that material of the urban landscape furniture design has discussed in the term of the integration for the general space design in case study of the Antalya Kaleici. Antalya Kaleici is an important space with its unique space qualities like the architectural integration and its unique sense of space and an important touristic attraction center for both Turkey and Antalya. By the aspect of the space perception, Kaleici has a powerful urban identity and with its yacht port and historical vernacular buildings one of the most important port city settlements in Mediterranean cost. Because of them the urban furniture in Kaleici region must be stable, comfortable and suitable with the historic town center. In this scope it is investigated that 862 different urban furniture in 24 different types in Kaleici old town region and it is estimated that the effect of the urban furniture to the space quality by the aspect of the relationship space furniture and its materials.
