Associations between personality traits, perception of covid-19 and quality of sleep during quarantine in Turkey

Purpose of this study is to investigate associations between neuroticism, extraversion, psychoticism personality traits, quality of sleep and perception of COVID-19 in the quarantine period in Turkey. Sample of the study consist of 236 participants (176 female, 60 male) who spent the quarantine period in Turkey. Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Eysenck Personality Questionnaire Revised-Abbreviated (EPQR-A), Perception of COVID-19 (P-COVID-19), Perception of Causes of COVID-19 (PCa-COVID-19) and Avoidance Attitudes Towards COVID-19 (AA-COVID-19) were given to participants. Participants reported poor sleep quality during quarantine. Results show neuroticism trait is associated with worse sleep quality when compared to extraversion trait. Perceived dangerousness of COVID-19 is associated with neuroticism trait, supporting existing literature. Psychoticism trait scores are found to be negatively correlated with behavioral avoidance and perceived dangerousness. Despite previous research, no significant difference is found between genders in terms of perception and avoidance attitudes for COVID-19.
