The evaluate sexual dysfunction and life quality in patient receiving cardiac resynchronization therapy

The study was carried out to evaluate sexual dysfunction and quality of life in patients undergoing cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT). The population of the study consisted of 60 CRT implanted patients registered in the battery control outpatient clinic of a public hospital, and 48 patients whose sample met the inclusion criteria and agreed to participate in the study. The data were collected through the general information form, the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI), the Erection Function International Assessment Form (IIEF) and the Quality of Life Scale (SF-36). In the evaluation of the data; Percentages, means, Mann Whitney U test, Kruskal Wallis test and spearman correlation test were used. 64.6% of the cases with a mean age of 64.02±9.83 are men. The average duration of cardiac resynchronization treatment of cases is 2.75±2.04 years. CDs were detected in 64.7% of women and 77.4% of men. The most affected subscale in women is sexual desire, the least affected subscale is orgasmic function and arousal. The most affected subscale in men is sexual desire and the least affected subscale is orgasmic function. The average quality of life score of the cases is 65.35±18.08. It was found that the highest score of the subjects from the Quality of Life Scale sub-dimensions was obtained from the social function subgroup (83.06±27.49) and the lowest score was from the vitality subgroup (51.45±20.66). In female cases, it was found that age, income status, CRT treatment period, presence of another chronic disease and systolic blood pressure affect the presence of sexual dysfunction (p<0.05. In male cases, it was found that age, having non-salary individual income, CHF stage, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and body mass index affect the presence of sexual dysfunction (p<0.05). Only in women, there was a relationship between quality of life and sexual dysfunction (p<0.05). As a result, sexual dysfunction is common in patients undergoing CRT. Therefore, in patients undergoing CRT, CD should be evaluated together with disease-related factors as well as psychosocial factors.
